現在の実力テストとして，次の曲，どれだけ歌詞が分かりますか？
聴いてみてください。
オリンピックのときに大ヒットした「パプリカ」の英語バージョンです。
歌詞の内容はもちろん小学生レベルです。
次の曲は大人の渋い曲。
Eagles - Desperado (Live from Melbourne)
ロックバンド"Eagles"の代表的バラード，「 Desperado 」です。
タイトルの「Desperado」がもっとも難しい単語で，「ならず者」とよく和訳されます。
歌詞の残りの部分はすべて中学生レベルの単語です。
実際，次の歌詞・和訳が付いたバージョンを聴いて確かめてください。

英語の歌詞を文字で見ながら歌声・発音を聴きとれたでしょうか。
中学校の授業だけだとかなり難しいはずです。生の英語は，
「単語の一つ一つの読み方とそれが繋がった文（歌）での発音が異なる」
ため文字を見たとしても分からない箇所がたくさんでてくるはずです。
たとえば， 「 Desperado 」の歌詞で，
These things that are pleasin' you can ････ (40秒くらいのところ）
という部分は，
ズィーッスィンザーダー プリーズン ユーキャン ････
というように聞こえるはずです。
これは単語どおしの「リンキング」（音の連結） と 「リダクション」（音の脱落）が起きているためで，
これは聞き間違いではなく，実際，上のカタカナ表記に近い音で正解なのです。
英語は，文章の中では文字と音声が一致しない言語なので辞書で単語の発音を調べただけでは
実際の会話の中でそれがどのように発音されるかは分からないのです。
ありがとうを「サンキュー」と言うことは誰でも知っていますが，これは
thank （サンク）＋ you（ユー） ⇒ サンキュー
というようなリンキングが起こっているのです。
英語はこういうことが至るところで起こっているのですが，学校ではそれを教えてくれないのです
したがって，英会話のためにはリンキング，リダクションの仕方を別に学ばないといけないのです。

次の動画では英語の文章が単語ではなく，音節で区切られていることが説明されています。
英語の歌を聞くことも英語の音節・リズムを身に付けるのに大変役立ちます。
日本語の歌は大体，一つのひらがなに一つの音が対応するように旋律が作られますが，
英語の歌だと１音節に一つの音が対応するように旋律が作られているからです。
また，同じ音が続くときは，リンキングとリダクションは同時に起きて1回しか発音しません。

最後の問題は詰まらせないで，ウォーメモリー発音すると，
war memory／戦争の記憶 と誤訳されてしまいます。
warm はアメリカ流にワームと発音した方が入力されやすいようです。
googleの AI は自動だとアメリカ英語として聴いてるようです。
ネイティブのこういった詰まった発音を聴きとるためには，
自分でそのように言ってみることがとても大切です。
自分で発音したことがない音声は聞き取れない
のです。漫然と英語を聞き流していてヒヤリングがいつの間にか上達している，なんてことは起こりません。
犯罪捜査でもするように一つ一つの音を分析して，解読して，
自分なりに音を再現してみることで定着させていくしかないのです。
リンキング＆リダクションは，2つの子音が連続するときに起きることもあります。
オリンピックの歌，「パプリカ」の中でもそのようなことが起きています。
